So i have been modeling a space ship it has windows and i was hopping to see some of the in the windows so i started modeling the interior. I did this by taking a disc object and scaling and moving it to match the rough shape of the ship. This has presented numerous problems such as non se-metrical shapes wondering. I thought about using the create polygon tool maybe but i also noticed that i am unable to interact with the exterior part of the ship i was hopping to bridge and extrude from the exterior model in order to create this interior. i was wondering if there was a way to make the inside of an object editable so that in does not affect the outside. i just need some guidance because it is not coming out the way i had envisioned it.

I would select the exterior polygons and extrude them inward with the caps option checked. Then select the interior polygons and run the Functions>Split command. That will create a separate object with just those polygons, but you’ll have to delete them from original mesh.

so in order to do this do i need to copy the part of the ship i am working on, then work on the interior in a new project then combine them later. also would i need to delete tthe polygons that compose the window areas,?

Personally, and it may not be the best way (but it works for me) is to use the Boole tool. Create a cube and place it where the majority of the primitive is inside your model where you want your set to be. Then drop both the ship and the cube into the Boole.

It’s set to A subject B by default, this should cut out a cube from the ship, which won’t be quite right for your needs, but try the other drop down options. I can’t remember which setting I’ve used before to create interior sets, but this method works for me.
