Modeling and Shading A Ribbon with Arrowhead

There are several things wrong with this shot, but the two I want to focus on are the modeling and shading issues with the arrowhead.
1) If you step through the shot, you can see a distinct line between the arrowhead and the ribbon–how do I connect these smoothly?
2) Also, you can see the arrowhead has the same material as the ribbon, but the shading is going in a direction perpendicular to the ribbon and it is also condensed. How do I change it so the shading is continuous between the two pieces?
The ribbon is a sweep nurbs object and the arrowhead is a spline wrap.

To me the easiest way to do with would be to make the arrow a single object and spline wrap the whole thing.
