I’m nearly finished modeling a university building with a steeple but cannot seem to find the best way to build the tarnished copper dome on top. It looks a little like a squashed pyramid but everything thing I try ends up with just a shortened pyramid, without the smooth shape as shown in the attached photo. Any ideas?

I would create a spline profile and put it in a Lathe NURBS object set to eight subdivisions. Then you could make it editable and model in the details. Or better yet, model one facet of it and then use the array object to create the finished tower.

I should have thought of that right off, but for some reason it was like a brick wall that I couldn’t get past. The facet idea is great too. Thanks, you always bail me out. Have a great weekend.

might be good to Lathe it with a subdivision of 8. Make it editable after you have the shape and bevel the vertical corner edges to get the smooth joins.

Thanks, Brian. Can’t wait to get home from the main job so I can finish the one I really love, 3D modeling!
