So I’ve got AE CS5, but have yet to really mess around with Mocha’s tracking capabilities. Sean Mullen (VFX artist for Charmed and numerous other TV shows), posted a video showing a video captured face tracked with 2D images that look incredibly realistic.

Can anyone share how Mocha is that much better than the standard AE tracker and how did he make this look like it was shot with makeup on the guy’s face??

Mocha is much better when tracking involves perspective change. Mocha also provides a less tedious process when a large planar surface is available.

You should visit the Imagineer Systems Website for more tutorials. There are a few Mocha tutorials at the COW too.

    Here’s something I worked on a few months ago – https://www.broadcastgems.com/MediaServer01/MakeLovely_02.mp4

I simply tracked the facial features and applied a still image from a tree bark. This allowed the texture to lock into place. Then I used Blending Modes and Displacement Mapping to finesse the texture to make it look more believable.
