So I’ve got this clip: https://vimeo.com/55388289

I want to place 3D text that I’ve made in C4D onto the dirt track and have it sit there as she runs by it.

I’m having quite a bit of difficulty figuring out how to use the planar tool. I have the “link to track” on none as a few tutorials have suggested for off screen tracking.

Any thoughts on what a good process would be?

    Thanks

Using the link to track on “none” would be useful technique for the ground plane in the lower front. You will also need to track 2 other surfaces portion of trees in background or sky) as for a large parallax camera move, mocha’s camera solve requires 2-3 tracked surfaces.

The methodology is to track each surface well, then verify that the track is good by looking at the grid in mocha. You may have to track, stop, back a few frames, move the shape, re-track to get the background areas.

Once you have the 3 surfaces tracked, select all, make sure your solver is set to large parallax, then solve.

I’d also recommend watching any of the tutorials found here on Imagineer’s site. Here is a good one: https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos/mocha-v3-tutorial-using-the-camera-solver-to-track-difficult-footage/view

    Good luck,

Awesome. Yes, thank you. I had been searching through those videos intensely, but I didn’t know I needed to focus on the camera solver.

I’ll see where it gets me.

If I’m placing an alpha channel video into after effects after I camera solve, do I still make a null object, paste in the data from mocha and then make that null object the parent of my C4D alpha text vid?

    Much appreciated.
