Mocha Corner Pin Into AE Time Critical
Hello everybody,
I’m having a pretty simple problem that I can’t seem to solve.
1.) I tracked a piece of paper in mocha, track is solid.
2.) I export tracking data into AE and apply it to a solid to test, and the corner pin effect is perfect.
3.) I apply corner pin data to a null object… and nothing. When I parent any layer to the null object it does absolutely nothing.So I tried to import transform data, etc, and it works with the null object but the corner pin (which is essential to this) is missing, and thus it looks awful.
OBJECTIVE: All I’m trying to do is remove my tracking points from the piece of paper by slicing empty parts of the paper and placing them on top of the tracking points. Then apply the tracking data to those points so that they follow, and erase the black x’s on the paper. Am I approaching this wrong?
I would really, really appreciate the help, I’ve been trying to do this all day and it’s just not working.

Andrew,
When using mocha and corner pinning, there are no nulls involved. I know you are used to always using a null when tracking, but this won’t work for this workflow. For the best advice on how to do this, watch this tutorial:

Its pretty quick and it will show you the best workflow how to do this. There are a few steps you wouldn’t guess on your own. Then you can just use your clean plate and apply the mocha data directly to the plate. The tutorial will explain it well.

Oh btw, this is what I ended up doing with it. My first time using Mocha, but it’s pretty impressive how quickly you can get a decent track. It’s still rough.

Looks nice. Cool work. One suggestion on the crashing during render is to go into your memory and cache settings and change both to 20 and 20. Only use this for rendering, it will make ram previews not be able to cache a lot.
