Hello. I am new to Final Cut Pro and am using FCP 6. Any info on removing tracks of audio w/in a clip? I have an exterior shot of scenery where all I need is the ambience, but the crew is talking in the b.g. I would like to remove the voices and use the clip. I discovered that if I mute tracks 3 & 4 in Audio Mixer, then the clip plays without the voices (& only the ambience is heard.. Perfect), but I read that that is only good in play back and not in the output.

After reading the user guide, I selected the clip in the timeline and sent the single FCP clip to the Soundtrack Pro File Editor. I thought, “Great.” The instructions said, “Modify the audio as needed.” But the audio file did not play when I used the scrubber. Urrgh!!

    1) How do I delete/mute/remove/silence those two tracks of audio (3 & 4) and…

    2) Where can I get user friendly info on mixing tracks, i.e. transferring laughter from one clip on to another clip in the sequence. I’d appreciate any info I can get. Thanks so much.

    1. Manual/index/audio/delete tracks
    or online help/delete track
    online help/mixer
    help/mute
    help/audio levels
    help/pan

    2. same. Start with the manuals

FCP is deep and weirdly complex but the itnerface is fairly easy to grasp. You can right-click or control-click on lots of stuff and get little menus that give you lots of options like delete track.

Mixing is easy. Just open the mixer under tools. But if you’re looking for FCP to work like a DAW, it won’t. You’re not going to be pingponging or crash inserting. That’s Soundtrack Pro. That’s another manual and a different set of tutorials and a different forum.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
