    Greetings
I shot a video using a Varicam, a SDX 900 and a HDX 200. I would like to up-rez the SDX into the timeline and edit all in HD on FCP. The editor is having a problem up-rezing the SDX. My final out will be in SD to DVD. Is this the proper way to go?

    Thanks

What sorta problem and what editing platform? What editing timebase, and what sort of footage was shot?

We are editing in Final Cut 5. The three sources are ‘native’ 16:9 — Panasonic P-2 HD, Panasonic 480 30P SD (SDX900) and Panasonic 720 30P HD (Varicam). The timeline sequence looks closest to the source material when it is set to 720/30P, but when we export to a Quicktime movie it is ‘squeezed’ into 4:3. When the timeline/sequence is set to DV, the P-2 and 480/30P/SD material are sharp, but the 720/30P/HD material is soft when exported to Quicktime and to DVD. How do we edit these mixed formats and export to a DVD where the three cameras are equally sharp?

    Thanks,

[Bryan Duggan] “but when we export to a Quicktime movie it is ‘squeezed’ into 4:3”

Are you using DVCProHD as your codec? THat’s an Anamorphic codec and it’s putting out a 960×720 (I think that’s the size). If you are making a DVD, encode your video as Anamorphic and that should make it display correctly in DVDSP and on your DVD Player.

Another option is to “Export to Quicktime” as an Animation or Uncompressed format and and set the size to 1280 x 720 to keep the 16:9 shape if you are not going to DVD.
