    Hi there,

Were starting to use EX3 footage into our existing SD work flow. Most of the footage is SD, the timeline is SD & we’re mastering to SD tape.

When I drop a EX3 clip on the timeline, it looks soft & strobed, even after I set the render to best. Do I have to convert the footage to SD before I use it? In Compressor? Is there an easier way?

I have FCP 6.0.6 and Kona LHe.

You are most likely getting a field order issue, HD interlaced is Upper first and SD is Lower. A quick fix to try is to add a swap fields filter on the HD footage. You need to be viewing the timeline on an external monitor to be able to QC this.

I would rather let Compressor do the downconverting for me rather then FCP. But it is always wise to do a short test before batch processing a bunch of clips. In the long run converting first normally saves a lot of time since you don’t have to keep rendering.

Quick question Michael… I’m using EX-3 XDCAM footage with SD DV/DVCPro NTSC footage. Whenever I export with Compressor, I see a pulsing pixelation effect throughout the m2v file. What could be causing this and how can I fix this?

    Thanks,
    Nick
