  • Mixing 1080i & 720p on the timeline?

We really want to buy the new JVC GYHD100U but it only shoots 720p, and there is no underwater housing for it yet. Soooo…we were thinking of mixing it with images shot with the Sony HDV camera because of the great housings made for it. However, the sony shoots in 1080i. Will FCP allow me to mix interlace and progressive scan images on the timeline? We would be capturing using Decklink HD with the multibridge. Do I need to somehow convert some of the footage to the other format? Thanks.

Yes, you can mix them, but FCP will render it either to 720 or 1080 depending your timeline settings. It would be a lot easier for you if you use Declic to up- or downconvert all your material to either of these resolutions in capturing proces.
