OK, here is a good one:

I have a client who shot a bunch of HDV footage and mixed that with HD stock footage…all good so far. However the client then added a lot of 4×3 SD stock footage and does not like the pillars on the side of every 4×3 shot. What they want to do is make the sequence 4×3, letterbox the HD footage, and then I will match that letterbox on the 4×3 stuff so everything has the same letterbox.

My current sequence is an Easy Setup HDV, 16×9. How do I go about and accomplish the above mission? This is a new one for me on FCP. Thanks in advance.

You just need to scale up the 4 x 3 footage. Motion tab >scale or just drag the window in the canvas. You will loose about 30% though. You can then pan and scan it a bit by hand as the composition will probably be kuck.
