Mixed fps and Ripped DVD Playback
I’m editing a demo reel for an actor friend of mine, and his source materials are all over the place. Some of them are 23.98 fps QT files, some are 29.97 fps QT, and the rest of the clips are on DVD-Rs. I used Mac the Ripper to extract the DVD-R footage and then used MPEG Streamclip to convert those Video TS files to DV Res QT files. I then imported those clips into a 29.97 DV/DVCPRO FCP timeline. I also imported both the 23.98 and 29.97 QT files into this same timeline. I’m using Final Cut Studio 2, so I was under the impression that the combination of frame rates wouldn’t prove problematic. I cut the piece together, burned a DVD of the finished product, and also uploaded it onto Youtube (H264 codec at 30fps using Compressor). On Youtube, the clips which were originally 23.98 fps played back very “jerky.” Ironically, these same clips played just fine on the DVD-R I burned, but those clips that I originally extracted from the source DVD-Rs have a weird trailing effect similar to the FCP effect “Time Trails.” Any suggestions on a fix for either of these problems would be most appreciated.
