    Dear fellow Cow readers,

I am about to start editing a short film and I need advice.

Most of the film has been shot with JVC-250U camera with 720P. Since the thing has been shot in states I’ll assume it’s 29,97fps. Do correct me if I am wrong.
I have a hard drive with all the .m2t -files shot with this JVC camera, but the media locations has been changed and folders renamed. I assume that if the folder hierarchy would’ve been untouched, there would’ve been easy and simple way to digest the files into FCP. But since there isn’t, I was thinking to put them trough Streamlip and convert them into AppleProRes- Quicktimes. Good or bad practice?

Also I have footage shot with Canon 7D that I haven’t seen yet. It’ll be 1080p23.97fps, right?

What is the best practice to marry these two different footages together? My background is SD/HD PAL- land and these odd frame rates and file formats are getting best of me. Advice highly appreciated…

    Cheers

Your frame rate are assumptions and they can be right or wrong. 720p is normally 60fps but can be shot 30 or some cameras shot 24

Canon can be 24 or 30.

If you open the files up in QT you it will tell you the frame rate and resolution of the clips.

I converted one of the JVC cam files with MpegStreamclip to AppleProRes with current size and frame rate settings and Quicktime says they are 59.94fps.
I have the Canon 7D footage now as well and it is 23.98fps.

What would be the best workflow to marry these two different formats together?

    Cheers,
