Activity Forums Blackmagic Cameras Missing/Dropped Frames – Automator script or ideas to fill in gaps by duplicating other frames?

This happened to me with BMCC when I purchased SSD cards that weren’t as fast as was claimed and didn’t realize that the flashing “REC” meant I was dropping tons of frames. Lesson Learned.

I was able to fix the footage using Capture One pro, and processing all of the files as a jpeg sequence. Then, the sequence was uploaded into After Effects as Jpeg Sequence –> Force Alphabetical. Then, I used Twixtor to extend by 30% since roughly 1/3 of frames were missing. The result, as you would guess, was not perfect, but it was passable since each clip was only going to be used for a second or two at a time.

It’s time consuming, as you would expect.

    Hope this helps.

    Hey Sm Smith,

I know a programmer who is working on a workaround/solution to this problem. I’ll post you when I know more.

I’d love to know about this missing frames stuff as well. I recently shot with one of the approved SSD’s, and for some reason, i don’t know if it was too hot out or what but there were a lot of dropped frames on about 10 of the clips.

Ive been manually going through the clips and duplicating the previous frames (luckily i wont need that portion of the shots) however i still need the clip to be complete so the audio works and when we goto color it will connect properly.

Heres the closest I’ve found to being able to display missing frames, but still need some sort of automator to fill the gaps even if it was just a black frame or the previous frame. Really pain in the A$$!
