  • missing .smi file after recording EX1R recording

I have recorded some footage with a Sony EX1R.

One clip is not usable. I can’t play it with anything and cannot convert it for use in FCP.

Each CLPR folder is normally like this:
    ****.BIM
    ****.XML
    ****.PPN
    ****.SMI
    ****.MP4

However the clip I want to use and that I cannot convert/play is missing the .SMI file from the CLPR folder.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? It’s a really important piece of footage and it’s really frustrating I cannot use it.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

    Thanks,

    Flavio.

I did a test by removing the .SMI file and found that XDCAM Transfer didn’t care; the clip played as normal. This would suggest that the missing .SMI file is not the only problem. Was the card removed before the light had gone green, perhaps?

You could try copying the .MP4 file into a folder and adding that folder to XDCAM Transfer. If that doesn’t work, then the .MP4 file itself must be broken.

In case you haven’t tried already, it might be worth putting the card back in the camera and seeing if you can play it.
