I j ust got After Effects a coule weeks back. I’ve been playing around with it trying to learn the program (using after effects classroom in a book). It seems I have a problem. At first I thought it was just a random error, but this is the second time it has happened. Here is the problem. After I installed After Effects, everything worked fine, after shutting down and coming back a couple days later to play around with After Effects, I got this error message upon start-up. This is the error message “You have at leaste one output module template that refers to a missing output plug-in. Please check your ouput module template.” After this error message the program starts up, but I now have no effects at all under the effects and presets window. The first time I got this error message I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and of course everything worked fine. Now I just started After Effects back up and the same error message appears, and again no effects in my effects and presets window.
Does anybody have any idea what’s going on with the program, or my computer or anything that can help me out?
    I would be much appreciated
    Thanks in advance.

When you get your error-message. Go in you AE folder and check if the folder “Plug-ins” is there (and that there are actual plug-ins in the folder). It seems you’ve got a problem with the script that load modules when starting AE. The plug-ins doesn’t load, and hence to this you get error while loading templates connected to plug-ins that isn’t loaded.

All of my plug-ins are there in plug-ins folder within the After Effects folder. Is there something I need to do to connect them???

Thats kinda odd. Open your “Effects & Presets” window and press “Refresh” on the arrow-button-list to the right.
This might help you after AE has started, but you will most likely get the same error next time you open AE.

I’m not sure what cause your problem.

The refresh didn’t do anything. I may have to wait until Monday and call Adobe.

I have this exact same problem. Same situation, worked at first now all users are getting this message (post production house). Is this a bug within the program perchance? Did you solve this problem and if so, how?

I just faced the same error and then realized it’s the folder path problem.
If you have dragged the AE application icon to the desktop, it probably did not copy the short-cut
error will disappear if you relocate icon to the original folder.

So how do I do this (relocate icon to original folder)?
