    Help!

When cleaning up my library, I chose to ‘delete unused magnetic masks’ and now the magnetic masks that I wanted to keep (those that were being used/active at the time I deleted the render files) have disappeared. I get the “unable to render: missing magnetic mask mattes” red screen.

The magnetic mask effect still appears in the Inspector panel, and I can see all the keyframe marks where I adjusted the mask on the clip in the Timeline, but I get that ‘missing mattes’ red screen and I don’t see any mask appearing in the Viewer.

Also, the “show all magnetic masks” button is grayed out in the viewer.

The masks are also missing when I open any of the backed-up library files.

Any ideas on how to get them back?

    Hi Craig,

You may get your project back by restoring a FCP Library Back-up

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. They are missing in all the backup files as well.

I’d like to see screen shots when you add the Magnetic Masks, and then screen shots when you’ve quit and re-opened FCP and they’re missing. (I asked this on the Apple forum, also), of the Inspector and the Timeline.

Have you updated anything or moved anything on your hard drives lately?

Are other plugins being used on these same clips?

The problem isn’t that I can’t add masks, it’s that they’ve already been added and are now gone after deleting “unused masks” when I deleted the render files.

Restoring from a backup doesn’t work either.

No files have been moved and nothing else has been changed. Just that this happened when I deleted the render files and clicked on “delete unused magnetic masks”.

There doesn’t seem to be a solution for this so it looks like I’ll need to redo all the magnetic masks.

So you add a Magnetic Mask effect to a clip.

You run the Analysis so the clip if fully tracked.

Then what do you do next?

Do you see the MM effect vanish from inside the inspector?

I’m testing and am not seeing any MM effects on clips disappearing. Their header over the clip is collapsed, but the effect is still on the clip, as evidenced in the Inspector.
