  • Missing Effects after reinstall

Posted by Sam Comer on January 20, 2013 at 10:11 pm

I was having issues with the dreaded “Sorry, a serious error …” alert. It was happening on ALL of my project files, even immediately after their creation. I had my IT guy reinstall the entire Creative Suite. Once that was done, all my projects opened just fine with no apologies. The only problem is that now my effects are missing.

The window is totally blank. I went to the Window pulldown menu and tried to select Effects, just to be sure that wasn’t it. It is checked:

I installed the Functional Content and rebooted. Still nothing.

Did the IT guy not select something when he installed it? I would assume that all those effects would be standard issue and not require any sort of custom installation.

    Any help?

    Thanks.

That is a pity because it did do the trick for me.
Did your guy deactivate before reinstalling.
    Did he use Cleandertool?

Yes. Did all that. However …

After several minutes on the phone with Adobe support, the guy asked if there was a change in our network at the office. There has been. He asked me to create a new root user account and log in to that account and open PP. I did that and, lo and behold, there were my effects. Not having full understanding of what the fellow was saying, what I gathered is that somehow my program is looking for things on the cloud server, even though we purchased the full suite directly from Adobe. I now have to get full admin rights to my user name and my machine in order to make it work.

    Weird.

    Hi Sam,
Just over a year later, here I am sitting with the exact same problem. Been searching all over, but there isn’t much on the net about this issue.

Were there any specific criteria involving the fixing of the issue?
I had to re-install Win7 (x64) and therefore all CS software aswell – now I have NO effects in PremPro at all

Any help / insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Andrew.

Hello. I experienced the same problem when I had a power cut, and when I restarted the system, I saw that the list off effects, transitions, etc. was empty. After I tried several time to repair this problem, I created an new administrator account on Windows 7 (x64) and now the effects lists is back and functional. (Note. If you switch into your old account in windows the problem is not solved, so you have to work only into your new account)
