  • Missing DVCPro HD Audio in P2 Log and Transfer

Hi all, hope you can help me out here.

I’m having a problem hearing the audio in the Log and Transfer window while trying to transfer clips from P2 dick Images…

Here’s my issue: I have all 6 DVCPro HD codecs that should be in the Library/Quicktime folder but I’m having Audio issues… All of my P2 cards were Archived to Disk Image while I was on the road during a recent shoot… Now that I’m back in the edit suite, I want to log and Transfer only certain parts of all these cards…

I mount the images and open Log & Transfer (Cmd-Shift-8) … so far so good, they appear as they should…

I select a clip in the left hand column to review the clip so I can set my in & out point but I can’t hear audio….

This occurs during normal (100%) playback speed…. I realize that Log and Transfer does not allow audio playback while scrubbing….

If I select an in and out point and add to the queue, the clip transfers perfectly…. when I play it back from the logging bin or after I drag it to the timeline, I can hear it fine…. the only place I can’t hear audio is from within the Log and Transfer window itself…

This obviously makes setting in and Out points quite difficult because I have to read everyone’s lips and guess where to make my marks….

I assume I have all the settings correct because i can hear the clips in the timeline and from the library / bins….

VIEW/AUDIO PLAYBACK is set to BUILT IN OUTPUT but it doesnt matter which setting I have that set at, none of them effect the audio in the L&T window…

I can see the audio meters moving in the IMPORT SETTING tab of the L&T window…

I’m using FCP 6.0.3 on an Dual 3Ghz Quad Core Intel Xenon

Thanks in advance for your input,

I’m having the same issue, but it seems to randomly fix itself, and later break itself again. I had a thread in the kona forum that had some suggestions worth trying. But so far, nothing has been completely successful.

    Tim,

Yeah, yesterday it was working…. today, it’s not… I made no changes to any of the either the system’s or FCP’s settings….

Read you post link above and it would appear that turning off external anything does not do the trick…. Have you quit/restarted FCP a few times until it worked? It must be a plugin that’s not loading….

In the capture presets, it says “Warning: Audio device is missing” and in the pull downs for QT handling, it says “(missing) DVCPro HD Audio ”

    WTF?

The whole thing about using the P2 cards is that I don;’t need to “Capture” entire cards… just the bits I need and I can’t make those choices without hearing the darned things in the L&T window.

    ???

Do you have a capture card?

How do you monitor your footage?

No capture card. Just the Video card that came with the Mac. [NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT]
I monitor through the headphone jack… very minimalist on this system….

Alright. Before you log and transfer, are you in a Apple supplied DVCPro HD easy setup?

I too have had this audio problem intermittently on both my Dual 2Ghz G5 (5GB RAM) and 2.4Ghz Intel MPB (2GB RAM). (When using log and transfer for P2 DVCPro50HD being ingested from an external Lacie Quadra V2 FW800.) Both running FCP 6.0.4, OSX 10.4.11 and QT 7.5.
A restart of FCP would sometimes fix it, sometimes rebooting would fix it, and sometimes trashing the prefs would do it, but I haven’t found any long term solution. Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers

I was having the same problem. I am running:

    FCP 6.0.1
on my MacBook Pro, 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz RAM
We are shooting on an HVX-200 and HVX-200A both using FireStore-100 drives, not P2’s, but same concept right?

So I go to the Log and Transfer window I can view the clips but couldn’t hear audio. I freaked, cause we’re on location in Africa and I hadn’t used this system before (I know, not smart, but only 2 weeks to plan). I then imported just one clip into the browser and was able to view the clip and hear audio. I had never shut down the log and transfer window during this process. I went back to the log and transfer window and played back that same clip, and viola, audio and video in the log and transfer window. I check all the other clips and they are all working as well. Hopefully there is an actually fix to this though, because as some of you wrote before, maybe I just got the lucky 1 outa 5 on my first. I just tried closing out of final cut without saving anything, and re-opened it and it is working still. Not sure if this helps, but importing just the one clip seemed to do it for me. Not a very good fix though!
