    HELP!
I’ve been working all day on a bunch of complex comps.
When I go to save and shut down, AE won’t save. The info window reads
    saving… 11%.
So I saved a copy and then closed AE.
Now when I attempt to open the “saved as” version I get an error message.
    “missing data file”
I’ve repaired permissions and it still won’t open.
Am I screwed and if so what happened so I don’t do it again?

    AE 6.5
    G5 dual 2G

    thanks

Have you tried importing the damaged project into a new project? Sometimes that works.

… and for God’s sake, save the project under a new name every hour, not at the end of the day. Use AE 6.5’s built-in “incremental save” feature.

Then … only keep the most recent day’s set of AEPs if you like, or maybe keep one from each day’s work before that.

I’ve tried importing the project and I get the same error message.
Next I’m going to try opening project on a different box all together.

This advice is a bit too late but from now on as Steve recommended use incremental save.
    Shift Option Command S
then if a file gets corrupted you can go back to the previous incremental save. Some days I’ll get up to version 150 of a certain comp. AE project files are tiny so it is well worth it

    To the masses:

Your time between incremental saves should be equal to the amount of work you’re willing to re-do. A day? An hour?

If you save incrementally once a day, be prepared to re-do a day’s work if your project goes south. If you don’t save incrementally at all, be prepared to re-do all your work from scratch.

And if you’re short on time, you might miss the deadline and blow the job.

    ’nuff said. 🙂
