I believe this is my first post here on CC. And, I’m pretty certain this topic hasn’t been covered or at least when I searched it hasn’t come up.

I transferred an Avid Xpress project into MC 3.0. Now I have a bunch of offline clips. Better yet in my project window I have several bins that are red followed by ???

Obvious warning. So, my next step was to see if I could open these bins from the finder and yes they open. The problem is once opened I cannot save the bins with a different name. And, I cannot quit out of MC. I must force quit to exit the program.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with this.

Solved! In General Settings I checked USE WINDOWS COMPATIBLE FILE NAMES and the font change from red to black. Now they open in the project window. Duh!

    Oh but wait!!

    The culprit:

PROJECT A lived on an G5 Dual 1.8GHZ (IBM). We upgraded our systems to MC 3.0 (MAC PRO).

[Project window on MC Version 3]

    [Finder Window MAC PRO]

When you see those questions marks after a bin, one of two things is happening. You found out the naming convention issue.

The second is “permissions issues”. Go to that bin on the drive and right click and select security. You need to change the permissions to allow access on that computer. The fastest way is to take ownership locally. The best way is to add “everyone” with full control.

Once you do this it will show up as a normal bin in Avid.
