  • Missing basic audio FX

Posted by Paul Gregory on October 3, 2011 at 3:22 am

I appear to have hit some wrong setting & can’t seem to get my audio FX back. If I click on audio FX I expected to get standard 3 that are defaults equalizer, compressor. Instead whats opening is the much bigger list of tools & I have then skipped over the more basis ones. How do I get them back?

    Thanks in advance

Start a new project, create a new audio track, click on the track header FX tab, delete everything you don’t want, make sure the 3 basic ones are there and close the FX window.
Right-click in a blank space in the audio track header, choose Set Default Track Properties, click OK and you’re done.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike but it didn’t help. When I click to delete everything that I don’t want they aren’t on the list instead I think I’m seeing all FX but not the basic one I was after. What I do see in that list are many from Compro & Cyberlink. I can’t recall seeing them before but they may have been there all the time.

In any event I may have to reinstall the program as they might have somehow been deleted. I was hoping that I didn’t have to do this. What do you think?

    Thanks in advance

Paul, just to confirm, when you first click the Track FX icon, you are seeing something like this, correct?
BTW, these are the default FX.

If you don’t see these three on the list, Vegas may have gotten corrupted somehow.
I think that Compro and Cyberlink come from your sound card and a software program.
Why they’d show up is beyond me but computers are strange beasts.

Before you re-install it, see if a reset will work.
Close the program. Now press CTRL+SHIFT while double-clicking on the program’s icon to launch it. Continue to hold the CTRL & SHIFT keys until the program is fully up and loaded.
In newer programs, you will see a window that asks “Do you want to reset all preferences to default values?” Place a checkmark next to “Delete all cached application data” and then click Yes.

[Mike Kujbida] “Continue to hold the CTRL & SHIFT keys until the program is fully up and loaded.”

This is not needed because as soon as you double-click the icon with CTRL+SHIFT pressed, you get a dialog box from Vegas asking if you want to reset the program parameters.

No I don’t see that screen at all. The only thing that I ever get to see is the screen that comes after that where every tool on the PC is Listed. The one that I want has been skipped over.

Since the require effects that I’m after aren’t displayed on the complete list I suspect that they have somehow been inadvertently been delete from the machine. Using CTRL & SHIFT as I open the program reset all of my preferences back to the default & still these tools are missing.

I’m see if it’s possible to just reinstall these tools which I expect are called plugins if not then I’ll just have to just completely reinstalling the program.

    Thanks in advance

Reinstalling Vegas is no big deal. All you lose is your Screen Layouts.

If you have any custom render templates, those will be gone too.
