    Hi!

Do you run a risk of losing picture and audio quality if you run your master tapes say 10 times? Will glitches and digital code breaks more likely to appear if you keep playing the tapes ? Someon told me you need to play the tapes at least 500 times before any quality gets affected…
    What’s your experience ?

    Thanks.

Regardless of the format, if I think I’m going to run my master tape more than once or twice, I’ll make a dub master, AND a master. That way, I’ve got an archival-quality master sitting on the shelf, and one for dubs. Tapes don’t USUALLY break, but machines eat tapes, oxide flecks off, etc…. It’s really more of an insurance policy – tape is cheap!
