  • MiniDV log and capture settings?

    Hello
I am trying to capture DV footage off a tape coming from a P2 camera which is attached via 4to6 pin firewire. I shot the footage with the Film setting – shooting 480i/60i onto a miniDV tape – here is what it says on the actual tape: Panasonic miniDV ME DVM60.

The 2nd part of my question is about the project itself – most of the footage was shot using P2 cards at DVCPRO HD 720p60fps and the project is meant to be HD in the end – I have some footage that was also shot at the 1080i 60i setting – of course if i also got this dv footage as well things clearly get complicated here – again the majority of footage on this HD project was indeed shot at 720p60p.

I would very much appreciate if any has a sec to give me some assistance,

    Thank you

Not if it was shot onto the MiniDV tapes. P2 cameras CANNOT record HD to tape. They can only record HD to P2 cards. Your tape will be SD, hopefully shot in 16:9 anamorphic so you can up-convert it to match your HD footage.

Subject: Re: P2 HDV capture probs – Help!! still in need of assistance – send me an angel!

Hey thank you everyone for replying to my post i really appreciate all of your time and effort. The camera is the Panasonic HVX200P and I am still unable to ingest the footage but i can see it on the camera so i know its on the tape.

I still am having trouble ingesting this footage from the camera into final cut 6.0.1 so i am hoping someone can walk me through the settings in that I have to ship this camera back by noon.

Again here are the settings I shot this Mini DV tape at – I inserted a miniDV tape and set the camera to FILM not Video and then 480i 60i with the Cine V scene file selected. The Aspect Conv setting is at Normal and I am not sure how to tell whether or not i was shooting Anamorphic to answer you Walter.

I need to capture this footage and I have tried a few different capture settings (DV, DV anamorphic, etc.) I have no clue what setting to use but before it was giving me an error message when i selected HDV obviously now i know it is NOT HDV but at least by choosing any of the DV setting in capture it opens up the log and capture window – unfortunately i have no deck control of the camera and cannot seem to ingest it.

I am hoping i just need to correct the settings so please anyone who has some ideas and can help please respond or call me asap.

    your desperate editor,

    BK

Just to double check your settings:

    1. Make sure the switch on the back of the camera is set to Tape.
    2. Press the button to the left of the MCR button so the light changes from Tape to Dub.
    3. In FCP select Final Cut Pro – Easy Setup
    4. Now select the basic DV NTSC setting
    5. Open the Log and Capture window
    6. Digitize

If it still isn’t working then it might be your computer’s firewire port or the firewire cable you’re using. Try testing those.

    Good luck!
