miniDV fcp import jaggies
Hi,
I’ve offered to edit material given to me on miniDV, and I’m not very happy with the results I’m getting. I borrowed a Canon XH-A1 to do the import, into Final Cut Pro (studio) v7 via firewire.
The camera claims the material is ‘DV60i’ (it wasn’t shot on that camera; I couldn’t say for sure what it is), but when I do the ‘log and capture’ ‘capture now’ I end up with clips that are 720×480 29.97fps and have noticeably jagged edges – the whole thing looks fuzzier than what it does on the camera screen.
I’m hoping this isn’t the best I can get. I’ve tried a number of the capture setting / device control / capture/input settings (including pulldown removal) and several settings on the camera, but get the same results. I haven’t seen anything in FCP that indicates it supports 60i; do I need to do something in compressor to make the import work better?

DV is DV – you brought it in native ~ via FireWire.
It’s the best it’s going to get.How are you monitoring?
