    Hi all

    Newbie alert!

I have a pile of MiniDVs shot on a Sony PC110E that needs editing and archiving

Have tried bringing into iMovie but pretty sure this is dropping the quality

    Looking at purchasing FCExpress

Is it a case of plugin the firewire and capture with FCE making the best settings
    or are there optimum settings

    any thoughts appreciated

lots a family video – want to keep the quality if its going to be archived

[Paul Taylor] “Have tried bringing into iMovie but pretty sure this is dropping the quality “
iMovie keeps the video quality, but the audio is crunched to 32Khz.
Also I think that on exporting you can not keep the two audio channels separated.

So – if I want to keep the sound and the image at best quality – it still means a move to FC Express?

As I said, the main problem with iMovie would be about audio.
iMovie works natively DV, so would preserve the picture quality.
You can use FCE or any other pro NLE (PP, Edius, AVID).
For capturing your footage, you can do it just with QT Pro (Capture video function).
