    1st – i’ve heard that you should always use the same brand of mini dv tape in your camera – because some have wet and some dry lubricant and that it’s bad for the camera to switch between them… is this a real concern? 2nd – are 80-minute mini dv tapes more prone to problems and therefore not recommended (as with 90 and 120-min. audio tapes)? thanks.

    Yes on both accounts- pick one tape and stick to it, avoid the extra long loads if you can. I’ve always used the Panasonic AY-DVM63MQ Master Quality tapes.
