Mini DV question
I have been looking at mini DV players so I can put some tapes on DVD. The players themselves are expensive, so I was wondering if I could just buy a camcorder and capture them to FCE. I will probably be working with tapes from more than one brand of camera. To what extent are the tapes interchangeable between camera types?

A cheap camera will work fine for most things. What you might run into though is:
LP playback. Avoid recording in LP as often it will only playback on the camera that recorded it.
DVCAM. DVCAM is like DV, but the tape runs faster. Some cameras won’t play it.Other than that, you’ll be fine. You’ll get slower fast forward and rewind than a real deck, and it won’t be as responsive for shuttling around, but it should work just great.

Thanks a lot, I think I’m safe going with a camera then. I’m not after anything fancy just yet.
