  • Mini DV Camera ejects my drive

I’ve had a strange problem since I installed FCP 6.0.1 on my macbook pro (version: Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz)

When I use my small DV CAM to digitize with, and open the capture preset in FCP, It automatically ejects my FW800-connected external G-drive.
I know capturing from a mini-DV cam is not the best option, but it is currently the only resource that I have. Here is why:

I usually use a Sony HVR-V1U connected through firewire to capture footage, (Also not the best option, I know) And I have NO problems capturing to an external drive. However, the tape that this client had recorded on is Mini-DV and when I try to digitize with my HDV camera I get the message “Capture encounted a problem reading the data on your source tape”. FCP records about 2 seconds, then aborts, consistently.

My drive never ejects itself when the HVR-V1U is attached. Only with the smaller panasonic consumer-grade mini dv camera. I have no idea how to fix the 2-second capture/abort problem without testing the capture capabilities on the camera it was recorded with. But, as I can see, my laptop rejects my hard drive every time that I try.

Any suggestions would be of great help!!

HDV cameras can play mini DV tapes if they are set up to do so. Check the manual on how to set the camera for DV playback.
