I’m trying to digitize a Betmax tape with Blackmagic Media Express. The video is fine but I’m getting no audio. I called Blackmagic and they had me buy a Rolls Promatch stereo converter MB15b so now I’ve got the deck audio going into that and then out back into the Mini Converter with the same result. The Betamax only has RCA outputs. All of the drivers have been updated. I’m stuck.

Is the Betamax tape Beta HiFi or linear audio tracks? If it’s a HiFi tape and you’re playing back on a non-HiFi deck, and the linear tracks aren’t there, you won’t hear anything.

It’s a HiFi deck. I get audio using a crappy El Gato video capture device but that thing stinks in terms of compression.

Maybe the Blackmagic prefs for the capture card are set to embedded audio (SDI) instead of analog?

Now I’m wondering if my Beta HiFi deck still works…
