  • Migrating to Resolve. Dealing with duplicated filenames?

Hi all. I work at a post house in Argentina and we bought the license to start integrating DaVinci Resolve to our services.

I am trying to “teach” my coworkers how to use the conform and render parts of the software to conform new projects and set them up before a colorist comes to grade it.
As they are used to working with Iridas SpeedGrade (which I also use), I have to take into consideration their previous knowledge and usual ways of preparing projects while I teach them.
My first complication came with a project that was shot with 7D and clearly did not have a qualified data manager on set. There are several clips with duplicated filenames.
Using Iridas SpeedGrade yo just scan the filename and replace one reel with each option until it matches the digital cut.
I simply don’t know how to do that in Resolve. I had this problem before while working on my own, with version 7, and I solved this previously in FCP, by renaming files and then sending the “fixed” EDLs to Resolve, but I want to know if there is a way to solve this from Resolve without needing external software.

    Thank you,
    Rodrigo Silvestri.

    couple things:
    1. create folders in your media pool to separate out the clips, you can put the clips with duplicate names into folders that will organize them, this is not necessary but it can be helpful. If you have multiple EDLs in your timeline area you can then right click on the timeline and choose “reconform from folders” and choose the specific folders you want that EDL or timeline to pull clips from, this can be very helpful.

    2. if you have a clip with the same timecode or name you will often get a “c” on the clip in the conform page which means there is a conflict there. If you right click on the “c” you will get a window that will pop up and ask you to resolve the conflict by picking the correct shot.. once you do so – the clip will then have a “r” on it meaning the conflict has been resolved.

    hope this may help.

    Thank you Jaime,
I guess that’s the solution… looks pretty simple.

    Thanks,
    Rodrigo
