  • Microsoft surface encoding~ use hardware or software encoding?

    Hello!

I am using a Microsoft surface pro 4 to encode a bunch of video (I know not ideal)

I am a bit confused how the hybrid GPU on the machine works

Would it be more efficient to encode using hardware acceleration, or should I opt for software encoding only?

If you have hardware acceleration selected, but the surface does not have a proper GPU, will this be slower than selecting software encoding? Or would the machine simply send the task to software anyway and it would be rendered at identical speed to if software only were selected? Does the process of attempting to work with a non-existent GPU slow things down, or if there isn’t a proper GPU does it simply skip over trying to work with the GPU and go straight for software based processing?

    Thanks so much!
