    Hi,

Is there a way I can encode video in Microsoft mpeg4 v2 on a Mac? If not, what is the best way to encode in that exact format?

    Thanks a lot,

    Luke

While Flip4Mac can certainly play back that codec on the Mac, I can’t even FATHOM why you’d want to encode to MPEG4v2. Is this for playback on antique computers?

Heck I don’t even think Windows Media Encoder on Windows encodes anything older than WMV7

Even Windows Media Player 7.1 can play back Windows Media Video 9 files. WMP7.1 works on nearly 10 year old Windows 98. If someone hasn’t moved beyond WM98 SE then I’d either get them an OS upgrade or a new computer.

It’s for playback on a photobooth, basically a demonstration video that will play when it is not in use. Apparently MPEG4 v2 is the only format that will play on the device. Is there maybe a modern, similar equivalent that might work? I have tried Flip4Mac and it’s no good. Any other suggestions greatly appreciated!

Just in case anyone ever has the same problem, I used a piece of software called Video Converter for Mac, https://www.mp4converter.net/video-converter-mac.html, to encode to Mpeg4 v2. Problem solved!

Nowhere does it show support for Mpeg4v2

    See this article
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Media_Video

and see this when you scroll down

Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2 MP42 Video for Windows-based codec. Non-standard MPEG-4 codec incompatible with the later standardized version of MPEG-4.

Umm, I realise it may not show support for the codec, but I did just use the program and encoded MS mpeg4 v2 successfully. It may seem suprising but it definately does work.

    Maybe it’s using this somehow?
