  micro sign (option-m) defaults to symbol font

  When I type in the micro sign (option-m) in Illustrator 10
  (Mac OS 10.3.9), it defaults to the symbol font. I am using
  Myriad Pro.

  When I type the same character in InDesign (2.0.2) it
  appears in the proper (Myriad Pro) format.

  My client prefers that all the characters look the same.

  An help would be greatly appreciated.
