I’m going to be shooting a documentary style program and much of it will take place inside a martial arts training facility. Sometimes the subjects will be wearing a gi, but sometimes they’ll just have boxing trunks on. Sometimes we’ll be able to close to the action, but sometimes we’ll be shooting from a distance.

Can anyone make suggestions on the best way to mic this type of scenario? Because this is a documentary we’ll want to capture all of the candid conversations we can.

    I appreciate any advice.

Tough call. If they are wearing a garment you could tape a Countryman B6 in the hairline with Top Stick Toupe’ tape. Then run the mic cable down the back to an ace bandage material or Transmitter pouch around the waist line. No garments, and you don’t want to see wires, maybe a parabolic mic?
