That was the recommendation of our vendor (rental company), but the producer doesn’t like it. I don’t remember what type of E6 did we rent.

Obviously should be unidirectional? Is that correct?

    Lot,

Why doesn’t your producer like it?

    Omni is fine.

I believe it’s preference. He decided to use Sennheiser MKH416, because he used it before on his previous dvd commentary

Should I use unidirectional or omnidirectional E6?

    Lot,

as long as he can get w/in 18″ with the 416, fine.

as I said, omni for the b6.

Sorry I just want to clarify something. You’ve mentioned before E6 and now you said B6.

    Which one is correct?

Screw the preference – this is about what will best capture the source audio.

Why not rent the MKH416, buy an E6, and use both – then choose which one sounds better in post-production? You’ve got 4 channels of nice preamp to work with…I say use it! You can ALWAYS find a use for an E6 (works great on-stage for corporate productions and violinists). Shotgun mics have a more limited use as compared to an E6, in my opinion.
