  • Method to retain sub clips and trash the original file.

I’m new to FCP and would like to know if there is a method to do this? I want to capture 60 min HDV tapes using the “Now” feature which I know will break down the tape into clips each time the camera stops & starts. That works well and I’ve done it. Now I would like to select sections (sub clips??) from each of those original captured clips and save them retaining the logged info like T/C and reel #. Then delete the original captured clip from the project and the harddrive.
Is there a way to do this and keep the logging info, T/C and reel #’s with the sections (would they be called subclips?)I want to save?
    Thanks

Use the MEDIA MANAGER to do this. There is a big section in the manual that lays out step-by-step instructions on how to do this.

You know, it would be faster to actually log the tapes before you capture them. That way, you wouldn’t actually capture the parts you don’t want.

Reviewing the material takes about the same amount of time regardless of whether you do it before or after you capture the tape, but you don’t have to spend any time with the media manager if you do this first.
