    Hello all,

I need some advice on Gigabit Ethernet RAID Array and MetaSan.

My UltraStor RS-8IP running MetaSan on two HP 9600 workstations doesn’t want to play nicely with my local area network. Specifically, any files being accessed on the LAN from either of these two workstations using the second network card becomes corrupted.

My theory thus far is that this has something to do with the configuration of MetaSan. I’m new to the IP storage concept. Any advice is welcome.

    Hi Patrick,

If I understand correctly, you are using metaSAN iSCSI with UltraStor storage and that is working fine. However, when accessing files over LAN (as opposed to iSCSI), you are seeing corruption!? Can you clarify who is accessing what?

Also, what kind of file corruption are you seeing?

What version of OS (XP, Vista, 32/64-bit) and metaSAN are you running?

    Thanks,

    Bernard

    Bernard,

Glad to see your reply. I just talked to David Pollock, sales rep, and he directed me to the montreal support line. I left a message.

    MetaSan iScsi 2.2.1.2610
    Windows XP

The communication between our two HP workstations and the iScsi SAN via Gbe works flawlessly. The SAN connects directly to the workstations via the Gbe port on the motherboard. MetaSan connects via a second Gbe card. It is through the second card that the workstaions are connected to a Gbe Switch that we connect to our local network for internet, client files, graphics, audio, etc. The two workstations are the only clients on this switch. The switch connects to the LAN, basically making our two workstations their own work group.

Corruption of files moved from our LAN to our HP workstations (or vice-versa) comes in many forms. Clicks and pops appear in audio. Color streaks appear in Photoshop files. Programs or utilities become damaged.

    Thanks for the help!

    Patrick,

I would suggest you upgrade to the latest 2.2.5 build and see if the problem persist. I believe there was a fix issued for this a while ago.

In order to upgrade, you only need to download and install the latest version of the software on top of the existing one. There is no need to uninstall anything. Start with the master, and upgrade the other machines one by one.

It will also be easier for support to help. Is this something you can do?

    Cheers,

    Bernard
