Metadata tagging on Ingest – can these be searched?
Question – while ingesting video, can you use FCP to link Metadata to various points of the video and then search for that Metadata later across multiple videos?
Example – I shoot 100+ basketball games a year. While ingesting the video, I would like to mark or tag Metadata throughout the video (scoring, turnovers, player number, etc). At years end, I would like to search for video of certain events (like a particular player scoring) and pull those out into a highlights film. Is this possible/pratical in FCP?
(Ideally I would do the tagging and ingesting “live” at a game on a laptop.)

Don’t know about FCP, but that is one of the biggest features in the new Adobe suite

Is that Adobe OnLocation that you are referring to? I understood it previously to only do simple markers (similar to Liquid).

Some of this can be done if you ingest into FCP via Log And Transfer.
The metadata then follows the QuickTime clip, and can be read by any FCP project the clip is brought into.
Or better still, by Final Cut Server, which gives database search facilities for all the metadata.The older Log And Capture, being ancient carbon code, can’t add the metadata to the QT clips.
But I doubt if Log And Transfer can cope with the sort of timecode-stamped metadata you wish to log – yet…
Maybe FC Server is currently the place to log all that sort of thing? -
Apparently the metatagging is suite-wide….Premiere, AE, etc.

Thanks for the info on Adobe & FCP Server. It looks as if OnLocation and Premiere Pro allow for tagging and searching metadata throughout the captured video. I’ve downloaded a trial of Premiere Pro and will see how it works.
Sounds like FCP would not work for me, but I researched the Server portion and it sounds like it could search once something was tagged.
I am currently using a Canon XL1s and may be adding a HV30.
