meta tag question
I’ve fumbled my way through copying enough code to create meta tags for search engines and have added a couple of lines for spiders:

<meta name="robots" content="index,follow"> <meta name="googlebot" content="index,follow"> </head>My question is, do those last two lines only follow whats in my index html? Do they leave out the keywords I’ve listed? Do I even have those keywords listed correctly and in the right spot? My site is made in flash so are those last two lines even relevant? There isn’t much to “follow”, as far as code.
I can paste all of the html for my index page if it makes it easier or you can just click my sig and view the source.

The first tag is for all robots, and suggests indexing all pages. The googlebot tag is just the same, but is aimed only at Google – you don’t really need it as it’s assumed in the robots metatag and is anyway what the search engine bots would normally do. #

Sometimes people add a whole pile of hidden text for robots, related to the contents of their Flash page, but Google now aims to index your Flash text. If you do want to do this (for non-Google robots) you might want to hide text inside a comments tag like so that the robot can see it but the browser won’t show it.

If you want to block robots from some areas, you could try loading a robots.txt file (though not all robots follow the “rules”)

No links on your page to follow. Add a footer with links to all pages or a sitemap.
Too many keywords. You are shooting yourself in the foot. Reduce it to less than 10. Other pages should have those minor keywords associated with the content.

Be careful with your keywords!
You are repeating them so many times (St. Louis) that you may be banned from some search engines.
Non-semantic repetition of a keyword can be considered a Black Hat SEO technique and is penalized making your site disappear from the indexed pages in search engines.
Choose a landing page for every two keywords and put them in the page title, headers and content. Repeat them wisely and in. a natural way.
Metatags are OK, but rumors say (SEO is very speculative) that they aren’t that important in your indexed position. It’s better to concentrate on good content.
Also, as Dane mention, create meaningful links trough your site and from other sites. Post a link here, it will help us all!

Also, I believe that spiders read only the first 155 characters in content meta tags. So choose your words wisely.

I cut my keywords in half and hid some content text to aid in searches. Is this better?

I used no commas in the hidden text. No need, correct? -
If you want alternate content for a Flash site, I’ll recommend you to use swfobject to embed your swf. This way search engines will look at your content. Also, people with no flash.
