  • merging models?

I’ve got two models from Turbo Squid since I’m keen enough to make my own just yet. At any rate, I open the first model and then use file>merge to bring the second model into the scene. However, bringing the two models together somehow damages one, the other, or both of the textures on the models in some fashion of the other so that I get texture errors when I try to render a scene out. What do you think I’m missing here or could this just be a problem of bringing models from two third party creators together in the same project?

Maybe just the images used in the materials cannot be found any more because of different file locations?
Copy all texture images to one tex folder and place both scene files on the same hierarchy as the tex folder before merging the scenes.
Or you can just open the demaged materials and modify the image file paths there so that C4D can find the images again.

    Kind regards,

Like Arndt said, check your textures. Either they are not there or it’s possible both models use identical textures for different materials and one interferes with the other. In that case, you’ll have to check each material, rename it suitably and check all texture tags in separate scenes before merging them into one. From what I gather, it sounds like you are trying to import two unprepared 3DS files or something before cleaning them up which would explain the problems (in 3DS files, textures are stored as absolute paths with non-unique IDs).
