Merging Audio Files In Final Cut and making Quicktimes
I am a Resolve user but use Final Cut for syncing field recordings with my rendered QuickTimes. I usually merge the two files and give the FCP project to the editors or if its Avid I give the editors the Avid bins with the video DNX files linked to the audio files. This project I am working on they want the QuickTimes separate in a folder without going thru FCP and we are not using Avid. The question I have is there a way after merging the files to not have to render them out to another QuickTime? I am not sure if those merged files live anywhere on my drive. If I have to render these all back out its going to take a lot of time as I have 23 hours of footage. What would be the easiest way of doing this?

Lots of options, but it highly depends on how you sync.
Do you have common timecode on both video and sound?
If so, is it needed that the entire sound file is used?
(QT can hold a short piece of sound in a long video file, but the other way around is difficult, at least for FCP)
WIth commont TC< I’ve got tools to merge the two, but if you need to sync manually on clap or something, that won’t help you.
If that is the case, you probably need to export.
Mind you, this is NOT a render (since you won’t be transcoding),
thus the speed will be directly related to your drive speed.
Meaning, it will be way faster than RT, and thus will be doable…hth,
