  • Merged clips unlink after XML export

A search in the forums hasn’t helped me with this problem.

The audio and video were recorded separately. The audio from the camera is just a guide track (and sounds terrible). The two source files (audio + video) were merged in Final Cut Pro.

The problem comes up when I export an XML. After I import the XML back into a project, Final Cut just seems to forget about the merged clips. In the bin the “Type” column no longer says “Merged Clip”, it just says “Clip”. The “Tracks” column changes from “1V, 4A” to “1V, 2A”

Any thoughts? Am I missing something?

    I’m using XML version 4.

I think I’ve found the problem. If the merged clip is used in a sequence, it stays merged in the bin. If the merged clip is not used in a sequence, Final Cut forgets about the audio.

So now I’m make a throw-away sequence where I dump everything from the bin before export.

Might be FCP version specific, as it seems to work just fine here (on FCP 7.0.1) regardless of the xml version used for export and regardless of whether the clip is is used or unused. Glad you found a workaround anyway.
