  • Merge 4gb split audio clips from SoundDevice while keeping timecode?

Posted by Emil From on April 6, 2018 at 3:01 pm

I’m AE on a documentary with very long takes and the files Autosync great with timecode. But the SoundDevice 633 splits the takes into 4GB files and they don’t merge in Avid on import.

Is there any way to merge these clips while keeping timecode for autosync?

It would be really nice to have one long subclip instead of multiple 20 minute clips.

Autosequence the audio clips that belong together. Export as WAV direct out settings. Open them up in WAVE AGENT to ensure timecode is correct as per my blog:

Import back in. You will lose track info, scene, take, etc. That may change here shortly.

Thank you so much. Great solution.

I’ll ask my editor about whether the track info is essential.

You can also ask the sound guy to record mono instead of Poly.
this gives you a working day of recording time without file splitting.

Not sure if Michaels trick works. Direct out on Avid gives you a Poly wav, in RF64 (Defeating the 4 gig limit.)
I can imagine that Wave Agent does not like that .
But who cares, Avid itself will read it just fine.
But, if WA does eat it, you can add track names if you want.
