Menu Screen for .mp4’s and .swf’s
Hi,
this might be a stupid question, but i’m looking to make a menu screen (similar to a dvd menu screen)
from which i can launch a series of .mp4’s and also .swf flash website?Its for an exhibition so i don’t want people to be able to click around the computer, all I want visible on screen is the menu, so visitors cant browse the computer itself.

You won’t be doing it in After Effects. You can create the video but there are no programming functions in AE. Where did you get the idea there were?
We see this question often enough that I wonder if folks think there should be editable code in AE or if they’re just in the wrong forum.

although AE isn’t a programmer’s dream, you can still make nice video/graphics clips in it for use in full screen interactive flash animations and menus.

No I wasn’t thinking they could be made in after effects, and maybe this is the wrong forum, I just figured after effects users may know the answer to this? maybe someone’s exhibited work before, and needed a similar set up?
I don’t really know what program i’d use for this, thats kind of my problem, so I don’t know what forum i should post to?

Interactivity can be built in Director, Flash, any HTML editor, and DVD authoring applications like Encore, Apple’s DVDSP, or even Toast.
Your delivery media, need for sophistication, and the level of interactivity determine your workflow and the host application.

I was considering flash, but the quality of my .mp4’s seems to deteriorate quite a bit, and thats sort of my main selling point for the exhibition.
The interactivity can be minimal, I literally want a “click to play videos” & “click to launch website” kind of thing.
This is probably a stupid question Are DVD authoring app’s (Toast is all i have) able to launch .swf websites? I’m sure they are?
I don’t know what I’d do with out creativecow!

Sorry, I’ve never used Toast to do anything except burn video CDs and that was about four versions ago.
The ability to embed a clickable hotspot is built into QT Pro (see Event Stream, an ancient and ignored technology).
