We don’t make a ton of DVDs with menus but when we do we use DVD Architect, which I like…except for it’s generally poor job of rendering menu graphics. We create our menus in Photoshop using the layers method so when it’s brought into DVDA our menus and links are created automatically, but it seems no matter what size we create our graphic, DVDA always resizes it slightly when it creates the files. We’ve tried 720×480 (most projects are widescreen so with 1.2 to 1 aspect); we’ve tried 854×480 square pixels, 864×486 square pixel, 848×480 square and even 853×480 square pixel on the advice of someone in another forum. No matter what, logos with thin lines…or any graphic with thin lines ends up getting slightly pixelated. They look great in Photoshop or as an exported flattened file. So what size should graphics be for DVDA to NOT resize or resample them?

    Thanks.

Your math just needs to be more precise to 4 decimals: 720 x 1.2121 = 872.712 which rounds up to 873. Create your Photoshop graphics at 873×480 square pixels if you want to match NTSC DVD Widescreen in DVD Architect.
