  • memory issues….

Doing a big project in cs4.

Lots of layers. Lots of HD. Lots of problems.

Any tips on how to make the memory management work?

Crashing (20+ times today). Beachball of death just opening a folder. Can’t render movies, only png sequences.
    RAM previewing works intermittently.
Have to purge memory before every preview.
Have to render with ‘secret’ settings on.

I’m on an 8 core with 12gb of ram.
    Can’t make multi-processing work. I have open-gl switched off.
Converted all footage to Apple Intermediate codec.
    Upgraded to 9.02.

So far, this is the most buggy AFX upgrade I’ve used. Unbelievable.
I’d go back to CS3 in a blink if I could. Almost lost a job over this.
Not just me. My colleague in the next room has the same problems.
Same problem on my other machine too. Very unhappy. Sort your product out Adobe.

    Moaning aside, any constructive help?

    64 bit OS?

And, I know you are talking about a memory issue but you do in fact have your scratch disks for AE caching open to a partition that can handle the content yes?
