Recently i bought a mac pro and a finalcut studio, is just amazing and im really satisfied, but maybe i could be more. My mac has a 2×2.8 quad-core processor and i have 10 gb RAM, which i believe is a pretty good configuration, but still, im having problems to playback my HD timelines in 10 bit, it keeps dropping frames.
So my question is, is there anyway i could configurate or allocate more memory to my finalcut studio applications. Somehow can i make my mac, with this processor and memory i already got, a better machine for this editing applications?

I’m assuming with 10 GB of ram you have 4 2GB ram modules, and 2 1 GB modules. Remove the 1 GB modules. We had this problem with our mac pros. If your ram isn’t paired up evenly, the system doesn’t utilize the RAM as efficiently as possible. We had this problem were it wouldn’t allow us to playback our timelines in High quality, but once we removed those 1 GB modules, we had no more problems.

However, dropping frames probably has much more to do with your hard drives. What kind of a setup are you using? If you’re using a four way stripe you should be fine, any less than that would explain problems playing back 10 bit. Likewise, are we talking 10 bit Uncompressed or Pro Res (HQ)?

Hey Richard thanks for your help. Thats right 4 modules of 2gb and 2 of 1gb. Ill try taking these 1gb modules out.
Im talking about 10 bit uncompressed. And sorry about my ignorance about technical words in english but what is a four way stripe?
Anyway thanks a lot for your help. Another issue, is there anyhow i can still use these two 1gb modules in this computer, like if i buy more memory to complement the pairing, or from now on i can only use 2gb modules in this mac?
    Thanks again.

Four way stripe refers to a RAID 0 configuration, where four hard drives work as one for increased throughput. However, for 10 bit uncompressed HD you’ll need more like 8 drives for that kind of throughput. You might want to look into an external raid tower by CalDigit or something similar.
