memory error.
Hello Folks,
I am the proud owner of a Dell Precision Workstation 670 Dual Xeon 3.2GHZ with Two Gigs of Ram, I also have a nVidia Quadro FX 3450 PCI/Express 256MB.
I’ve installed AfterEffects 6.5 and updated it to 6.5.1, also have installed Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator-AE Classic Version 3.1.2.
I will be working with a project for a while, and then all of a sudden,
After Effects error: Not enough memory to complete operation. (4)
(25 :: 101)And I get a few of these with diffrent numbers, and then finally After Effects looks to be in trouble.
I have updated the video drivers to the latest nvidia drivers,
I have disabled open GL in the preview prefrences in After effects
I have turned the Hardware Acceleration down to halfway
I have disabled the “Desktop” profiles on the nvidia control panel
I have uninstalled Windows XP x64, and formatted and reinstalled just regular Windows XP Professional and then did all the above
I have redone the model.
I have disabled norton antivirusI don’t know what to do next, is there anything else I can do? Here are some meaty system specs:

Hello and thanks Serge,
I have contacted support, and they ask to try it on another machine or try with primitives. Well we bought this new machine specifically for this project, as we have some other older dogs sitting around. My boss is freaking out because I’m telling him that we need to regress to something circa 2001, and that this 1000 dollar video card could be the problem. So I’m really at a dead end. And the artist I’m working with is telling me that 3.1.2 classic doesn’t do primitaves. (I’m just the office computer guy.) I’m gonna try a diffrent video card tommorw.

Yes, try any cheaper video card before you change the station and loose the cpu speed…
Your animator is right you can’t create primitives within Invigorator classic.Good luck.

One thing that would help us help you better is for you to tell us exactly
what you’re doing when you get the error.For example:
Are you doing a RAM Preview? A final render?
Are you inside of the Invigorator Set-Up window?
Are you using the Invigorator interface inside of the Effect Controls Window (ECW)?The more we know about what button you’re pushing or what function you’re using helps us a lot.

I’m not the artist, I would have to get him to explain it. It goes something like this, he’s creating a tube and he uses an adobe illustrator file to define the extents of the tube. When he changes the FOCAL length of the scene, it bugs out. Also he can work from scratch just fine, then after he saves his work and re-opens it he gets the memory errors, and he finds that the focal length has been reset to default of 50. Also the color of the model will change from pink to black has he works with the preview. All this while the preview is off. Every time he works from scratch it’s okay, but once he saves, quits After effects, then re-opens the file it gives the memory errors.
I’ll try and get the exact explination.

Well I have the artist here, and he tells me that he was doing a RAM preview, and the RAM preview took too long, so he saved the scene or 3d object, and then re-opened it and thats when he got the error. Also he told me that he got the error from switching focal lenghts at one point as well. As far as the model goes his quote was, “It’s a very simple vector file from illustrator.” Once saved from this state it always then produces this memory error. I have also changed out the video card as well, to a Radeon X550 and we had some hope because the error didn’t seem to manifest itself as quickly, but sure enough still did crash. I have also loaded the latest ATI Drivers. So I’m still up a creek.

FWIW try testing another vector file, maybe one included with 3DI just as a point of comparison. It could be file relate…

We tried that, he created just a flat box, or even a plane. Changed the focal length and
the memory error. I advised the owner to either return the Dell, or Zaxwerks. I haven’t done anything more, since the artist is using his mac with his own copy of Zaxwerks at this time. -

Could you tell me a series of steps having to do with focal length to do that would cause the memory error?
It shoulds like you can create a repeatable memory error.Also, would you mind sending me a file that is giving you trouble?
And could you tell how it’s giving you trouble?I’d like to help you get this resolved.
