    Hi All,

I’ve been having some rendering problems related to ram cache. I either get an error message that reads that AE can’t find the image buffer or the render comes up with frames missing a particular element. I opened the prefs and increased the image cache from 60% to 90%. Isn’t OSX supposed to take care of these issues on the fly by allocating the necessary memory where it is needed? If so shouldn’t I just set ram cache to 100%?

Also, I’ve got 8gigs of ram yet AE only seems to recognize 3 gigs in the preference settings.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks much,

    H

You weren’t using the Zaxwerks Invigerator plug in by any chance were you?

One thing you might want to try if it keeps ‘running out of memory’ on the render… I’m not sure how this works on Macs, but on Windows: Edit>Preferences, but then before you click any of them on the flyout, hold down shift, click general, then let go of shift once the dialog is up. Then pull down the top left drop down menu, and down at the bottom will be a menu called ‘Secret’. On this menu there is an option: “Purge every ____ frames during Make Movie” (Or something like that). [If this process is different on Macs, someone please post to let Hal know.]

If you set a number in there, like, say, 60, then once it has rendered 60 frames, it will completely purge all of the RAM and start from scratch for the next frame (I think). This makes the render take much longer, but it usually will go all the way through without memory issues.

I hope that helps you out…
